The ongoing Monsoon Session of the Parliament saw the landmark Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill, 2018, being passed by both Houses. The Bill seeks to punish not only the bribe taker but also the bribe giver, with imprisonment up to seven years, fine, or both, on giving a bribe.
However, will this proposed law bring about a change in the mindset of Indian citizens? We at Inshorts ran a poll to find out if the common junta indeed resorted to bribe-giving to get favourable work done. Turns out, majority of users did, with 57% respondents admitted to giving a bribe at least once in their lifetime.
Now that the “offence” would invite punishment, would users go the regular route to get their way?
