News in Shorts, the news app which guarantees to deliver news articles in 60 words or less, crossed the million downloads mark on Google Play Store on Tuesday. Notably, the app is currently ranked No. 2 in India on Play Store (News and Magazine section). The app was launched in September 2013 and is the brainchild of Azhar Iqubal, Anunay Arunav and Deepit Purkayastha.
The Noida-based mobile-only news service provider delivers the glimpse of every news article within 60 words. The service is currently available in only English and is centred for Indian users. The company counts Tiger Global, Sachin and Binny Bansal of Flipkart and Ankush, Gaurav and Manish of Travel Boutique Online and Rebright Partners as their investors.
The company recently raised Rs 25 crore (USD 4 million) Series A round of funding led by Tiger Global. Earlier, it had raised a seed round of funding in July 2014, led by angel investors Gaurav Bhatnagar, Ankush Nijhawan, Manish Dhingra, Sachin and Binny Bansal (Founders of Flipkart), and Times Internet.
